Tricky Terrestrials: The Orchid Species of Maine (Poland Garden Club)

Join us at the Poland Garden Club meeting, held on February 10th from 5:30-7 p.m. at Poland Provisions (1220 Main St., Poland, ME).
A variety of colorful tropical orchids are available for purchase at garden shops and grocery stores, but orchids aren’t just houseplants. There are almost 50 different species of terrestrial orchid native to Maine! From the lightning-patterned Rattlesnake Plantain to the bumblebee-deceiving Lady Slipper—some of the most unique plants around are just waiting to be found in your very own backyard.
It’s too early to see them in the wild, but you can still learn all about the native orchid species of Maine in this presentation by McLaughlin Garden Horticulturist, Corey Kotfila.
